Kerala floods: Landslides wreak havoc in Kannur
Kannur: Landslides at Ambayathod in Kottiyur and inside the forest of Panniyam mala were the major incidents in Kannur on Thursday. There was no casualty as the families in the region were shifted in advance with the help of Army and Fire and Rescue wing.
The Pamparappan bridge in Kottiyur is at the brink of collapse as the trees and rock debris flowed as a result of the landslide has been stuck on the bridge. Panniyam mala, Ottaplavu regions were completely isolated.
Palchuram, Kelakam areas are also under threat.
All the shutters of Keezhallur dam were opened and the people of low lying areas shifted to relief camps.
The inflow of water has led to Anjarakandy river overflowing. Landslides were also reported at Kolayad Peruvayal and at Kannavam forest. As many as 1,190 persons are in 15 relief camps in Kannur as on Thursday which includes 8 in Iritty taluk, 3 each in Thaliparamba, Thalasserry taluks and one in Payyannur.
Three suffered injuries after a house collapsed in Morazha. The heavy inflow of water in Karyankod puzha caused the shifting of many families in Cherupuzha gram panchayat.
Traffic has been disrupted in Peravur Thalasserry state highway.
Landslip occurred at the 33th bend of Thalasserry-Nedumpoyil-Mananthawady ghat road which blocked the traffic to Wayanad.
At a review meeting held on Wednesday, district-in-charge minister K.K Shylaja has urged to float special mechanism for coordinating rescue operation, receipt and distribution of goods to the camps, traffic control and law and order.
