Telangana to get moderate rain

Low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal; Capital to witness a cloudy sky with moderate rain.

Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon has been strong over Telangana with very heavy rainfall in isolated places in Bhupalpally and Kumaram Bheem districts. Heavy rain in isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Mancherial, Peddapalle, Ranga Reddy, Jagtial, Nirmal and Kamareddy has also been recorded. A low pressure area is likely to develop over North Bay of Bengal and neighbouring areas on Sunday.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in five places over Telangana. According to the weather report, a depression over Odisha has moved in the westerly and northwesterly direction and on Thursday morning lay over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha.

It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours.

The capital city of Hyderabad will witness a cloudy sky with moderate rain. Since June, the city continues to register a deficit in rainfall. While last year Telangana received 412.8 mm rainfall from June 1 to August 16, this year, it received only 468.7 mm rainfall. The capital received less rainfall during the same duration. Last year, the city received 475 mm rainfall from June 1 to August 16, this year; it received only 255.7 mm rainfall

Kumaram Bheem and Adilabad have received the highest rainfall so far this year with 1863.8 mm and 1445.4 mm respectively.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has taken stock of the situation and instructed officials to be alert and vigilant across the state for the next couple of days.

Directing public representatives to be available to people in respective districts, the Chief Minister instructed the special officers to monitor the flood situation in the districts for which they were in charge.

He also told them to take up necessary relief and rehabilitation work in close coordination with local officers.
