Nizamabad district gets continuous rainfall
Nizamabad: Incessant rain has lashed the undivided Nizamabad district for the last 24 hours leading to constant inflows into the River Godavari and its rivulets and streams. Normal life was disrupted with continuous rain for the last few days. The district has received 993.8 mm of rainfall on Thursday.
Around 25,000 cusecs of inflow fell into the Sriramsagar project, the lifeline of north Telangana districts. Water level reached 1063.80 feet on Thursday night as against the full reservoir level of 1091 feet. The water capacity was 18.437 tmc on Thursday against the full storage capacity of 90 tmc.
There was incessant rainfall in the catchment areas of undivided Nizamabad, Adilabad districts and neighbouring Nanded district in Maharashtra. Increased water flow in the Godavari River also added to the problem.
Telangana and Maharasthra state officials were reviewing the flood situation and have alerted project officials in both states of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Nizamabad district received average rainfall of 36.8 mm on Thursday. Balkonda mandal topped with 60.9 mm rainfall, followed by Morthad with 56.5 mm and Velpur mandal with 55.8 mm rainfall. Of the 27 mandals in the district, 19 mandals have received normal rainfall so far.
A few houses collapsed in Kotagiri mandal headquarters on Thursday due to heavy rainfall. Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy postponed his scheduled tour to the Kotagiri mandal on Thursday.
In Nizamabad, low lying areas were flooded due to heavy rain. Several people found it difficult to travel on the roads in these districts.
Meanwhile, the rain after a long dry spell brought cheer for the farmers. They had eagerly waited for the rains for the last one month and have intensified agricultural operations.
Officials of the agriculture, irrigation, revenue and other department are coordinating the kharif season operations in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.
