Atal Bihari Vajpayee contribution to Bengaluru is Namma Metro
Bengaluru: Former prime minister A.B. Vajpayee’s contribution to the city of Benglauru is immense and long lasting.
His association with the city began from his Jan Sangh days and he was part of the close circle of Jagannath Rao Joshi.
Former BJP minister and Rajajinagar MLA S. Suresh Kumar says his biggest contribution to the city was the sanctioning of the Namma Metro project when he was Prime Minister. He also recalls that he inaugurated the Bengaluru International Airport and International Tech Park Limited besides the famous cable stayed or hanging bridge at KR Puram near the ITI.
During the Emergency he was arrested and lodged in the Bengaluru Central Prison for 21 days before he was shifted to Delhi.
Those arrested with him were stalwarts like Lal Krishna Advani, Madhu Dandavate and S Mishra.
