New Delhi: The Attorney General K.K. Venugopal has given his nod for the proposed ordinance to be issued by the State to enable medical admissions to be held on the basis of higher secondary examination marks and to exempt the State students from the applicability of Neet for the academic year 2017-2018.

The AG said the Tamil Nadu government has the legislative competence to promulgate the ordinance as Education comes under the ‘Concurrent List’ of the Constitution, under which the State also has the power to enact laws provided it is not repugnant to the Central law.

He said a formal clearance from the President of India has to be obtained before the State proceeded to issue the ordinance.
