GVMC delimited to 81 wards
Visakhapatnam: Municipal administration & urban development department issued a Government Order on Wednesday for delimitation of the wards of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to 81 from 72. The delimitation of the wards has been done in accordance with as far as their population and the number of voters is concerned. Director, municipal administration has furnished proposals in last year to delimit the strength of wards of GVMC as 81.
GVMC in its letter had stated that there is a population of 17,30,320 in its limits, while Anakapalle records 86,612, Bheemunipatnam, 54,865 and five panchayats, 9,889, summing up to 18,81,686. For the first 10 lakh population, 63 wards were delimited and the rest 8, 81, 686 population in 18 wards. Each ward will have a minimum of 50,000 population. Political circles feel that it would pave way for the GVMC elections which are long over due.
