Good rains bring heavy inflow into Hogenakkal

The inflow has increased to over 15,000 cusec against 10,000 cusecs on the previous day.

Krishnagiri: The gauge station at Biligundulu, where Cauvery enters into Tamil Nadu, has recorded over 15,000 cusecs of water inflows on Wednesday, following good rains in Cauvery catchment areas.

According to PWD sources, the inflows are not because of the discharge from Karnataka dams, but because of the good rainfall in the catchments area of the Cauvery. The inflow has increased to over 15,000 cusec against 10,000 cusecs on the previous day.

Dharmapuri district administration has stopped the coracle service and asked the boat owners not to transport the picnickers for sightseeing despite the ban.

The Hogenakkal police due to the increase in the water level have intensified the patrolling along the course of Cauvery to stop people from entering the river at prohibited places.

This initiative was taken after two boys from Salem went missing in the river, a week ago. They drowned while taking bath at Kothikal, a prohibited place for picnickers.

The body of 19-year-old R.Prem Kumar was recovered two days after the duo went missing. But, his friend I.Mohammed Arif could not be traced till Wednesday.
