Bengaluru floods: Foundation has sunk, building to be demolished, says MLA Reddy

State transport minister and local MLA Ramalinga Reddy arrived on the scene soon and explained the situation to the assembled media.

Bengaluru: A bulldozer waits in a narrow lane in Ejipura. A building stands in a distance torn in half like as if an earth quake had stuck. But this is no site of an earthquake. This is where a four storey building’s foundation had sunk. The multi-storey building has a huge crack running through the middle. The two-storey house next to it stands with its roof smashed due to the neighboring building collapsing. Such is the havoc that was caused by rains on August 14 and 15.

State transport minister and local MLA Ramalinga Reddy arrived on the scene soon and explained the situation to the assembled media.

“The foundation of this building has sunk due to the rains on Monday and Tuesday”, he said. “Hence the building has to be demolished.” A crowd of bystanders have gathered to greet the minister and watch the demolition in action.

M.H. Krishna Murthy, an engineer and contractor certified by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka Public Works Department (KPWD) is over seeing the demolition. “The building foundation has sunk due to excessive water collection leading the building to lean on one side. Hence the demolition is going on to ensure the building is brought down safely thereby ensuring the safety of people and property surrounding the building.”
