SRSP sluice gates closed with decline in inflows

HYDERABAD: The sluice gates of the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) were shut on Saturday, following a dip in inflows from areas upstream of the Godavari. Over the past week, all 36 gates were opened as the SRSP received a record water level of 139.795 TMC from June 1 to July 16. However, they were gradually shut down by Saturday.

To control the flood situation, the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) officials released 74.56 TMC of surplus water downstream of the Godavari, which reached the Bay of Bengal.

Presently, the water level in the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) is at 1088.1 feet, against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 1091 feet. Of full storage capacity of 90.313 TMC, the capacity is currently at 76.743 TMC in the reservoir. On the same date of 2021, the water level was at 1,085.4 feet, with 68.113 TMC in storage.

On Saturday, the water inflow was at 26,510 cusecs, with outflow decreased to 2,500 cusecs, after 3,500 cusecs and 10,000 cusecs were respectively released into the Kakatiya Canal and flood-flow canal. Besides, 152 cusecs were also released for drinking water supply under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. Of 139.795 TMC of total inflows since June 1, 83.757 TMC has been discharged.
