Pending permits to be cleared soon: AC Moideen
Kochi: Minister for Local Self Government A.C. Moideen said on Tuesday that applications pending with local bodies for building permits and occupancy certificates will be cleared at the earliest. While inaugurating the Kochi Corporation's file adalat at Ernakulam Town Hall, the minister said that complaints regarding pending applications at panchayat, municipality and corporation level will be resolved through conducting file adalats. The applications which failed to be cleared at zonal counters will be settled at district level or even at the minister level.
The minister instructed the civic officials to behave decently to those who apply for permits. “If there are mistakes or other issues in applications, it should be clearly communicated to the applicants during the first phase itself. The government will not help those who violate norms for constructing buildings. File adalats are not venues for giving approval to illegal constructions or activities,” Mr Moideen added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Soumini Jain admitted that failure in e governance has created issues in clearing applications for building permits. There are also applications which lack clearance regarding CRZ norms, wetland and paddy land conservation norms and NOC from various other government departments.
It is for the first time that the City Corporation is conducting a file adalat for building permit and occupancy certificates.
Among the first few applications considered, three persons were given permits for construction of houses.
K.J. Maxi, MLA, deputy Mayor T.J. Vinod, LSGD additional chief secretary T. K. Jose, standing committee chairpersons, councillors and corporation secretary R S Anu also attended.
