Power outages disturb morning schedules in many parts of Hyderabad

Residents of West Marredpally stated that, there was a power breakdown from 5 am to about noon.

Hyderabad: Many parts of the city suffered power cuts on Monday following the rain that occurred on Sunday night. At several places, residents suffered frequent interruptions in supply after electricity department staff switched off power to prune trees that had grown over power cables, and carry out other maintenance works.

The TS Southern Power Distribution Company (TSSPDC) kept on updating residents about the status of power interruptions throughout the day on its official Twitter handle and on SMS as well.

In some areas in Jeedimetla, Suraram, Bapubagh, the power cuts lasted for more than an hour. Golconda, Malakpet, Nampally Jagadeesh Market, Exhibition Grounds, Vijaynagar Colony, Hyderguda, Abids, Seetharampet, and other parts of the city suffered outages for short spells.

In some areas like Padmaraonagar in Secunderabad, the outage lasted for about two hours. In some Old City areas, there were very short interruptions.
Residents of West Marredpally stated that, there was a power breakdown from 5 am to about noon. Discom officials said there was no power shutdown in the area.

Mr K. Manohar, a resident of Jeedimetla, said, “Not just the rains, electricity failure also added to our problems. We underwent a lot of inconveniences due to the repeated power interruptions.”

He said residents were unable to charge their mobile phones due to the outages. “We are bacherlors, and we depend on the electric cooker to cook food. We had to eat outside as there was no electricity. We tried to contact the electricity department but we could not get them on line.”

When officials took the call, they said power would be restored soon but they did not know when, Mr Manohar said. Not just in the city, reports said several districts also suffered power outages. Some districts like Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal had short but frequent spells of power cuts throughout the day before the situation stabilised.
