Trained firemen are supposed towear safety suits: Retd DGP R Nataraj

Chennai: Though the death of fireman in the mishap is an unfortunate incident, it looks like he had not taken enough precaution before starting his hob on Saturday night at Kodungaiyur, noted a retired DGP and MLA R Nataraj on Sunday.

“They are trained to handle situation like petro-chemical fire and are given special suits to wear before entering into such situations. Firemen are aware of the fact that petro-chemical fire is to be handled very carefully because of the possibility of explosion, noted Nataraj, who had headed the fire department once. Most of the firemen face the pressure of people gathered as onlookers. They keep on giving various kinds off instructions to firemen.

But it is up to the fire fighters to take the appropriate decision according to the situation without coming under pressure of bystanders,” Nataraj noted.
