Minorities panel chief Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi: Avoid Beef
Hyderabad: Muslims should respect the religious beliefs of the majority community and desist from eating beef, said National Commission for Minorities Chairman Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi on Sunday while condemning the attacks on minorities by self-proclaimed gau rakshaks.
Speaking at a seminar on safeguarding rights of minorities, at the Madina Education Centre, Mr Rizvi said there had been a few incidents where in the minorities were attacked. He called the lynching of Junaid in a Delhi train as “unfortunate.”
Around 80 per cent of the population regards the cow as sacred and their beliefs should be respected, he said. The protection of the cows is a good activity. “Unfortunately, some criminals are using it as an excuse to create trouble,” he said.
Mr Rizvi said that the Minorities Commission has taken notice of the incidents and registered suo motu cases. Notices were sent to the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary of all the states where people belonging to the minority community were lynched or attacked over beef or cow slaughter rumours. “Our teams had visited the states and interacted with the families of the victims and asked the officials concerned to take necessary action against the culprits,” Mr Rizvi said.
He said that the Minorities Commission had written to the TS government to immediately set up a State Minorities Commission. “The Commission has written to the Union government to give it judicial powers like those vested with the SC and ST communities,” he said. He asked the officials concerned to take necessary action against those who attacked minorities.
