Telangana: State home staff save baby

Staff turn parents after saving abandoned kid.

Karimnagar: Authorities of a Shishu Griha, a state-run home for homeless children aged below 5, have turned parents for an abandoned baby which was found by the side of a road here, on May 19. The child was suffering from malnutrition but has now recovered, weighing a healthy 2.32 kilos and also has a name — Chintu. The baby was found unconscious at just 10 days old.

The Shishu Griha officials rushed the child to the district headquarter’s hospital before bringing it to the home. “He would have died if we had delayed his treatment even by 15 minutes. Incidentally, we had taken him to the same hospital he was born at,” district child protection officer D. Parveen said. Parveen was joined by and social worker M. Kavita during the rush to the hospital. They found out about the baby from a cop. Details are now starting to emerge about the mother. It has been revealed that she had already sold a daughter to a buyer. The mother, a beggar, is being housed at Swadhar home — being run by the child and women development department. Officials say the mother is a native of Vemulawada town and claim she was deserted by her husband for many years ago, for begging.
