Protests today at University of Hyderabad
Hyderabad: On July 17 it will be six months since the death of dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, who committed suicide in his hostel at the University of Hyderabad in January.
The JAC for Social Justice, which has been protesting on the issue will be organising protests on Sunday — including screening of an episode of TV series Cosmos by American astronomer Carl Sagan, whom Rohith had mentioned in his suicide note. “I always wanted to be a writer. A writer of science, like Carl Sagan. At last, this is the only letter I am writing,” he had written.
University faculty who are part of the SC ST Teachers' Forum will also be taking part in the protests and Dr. Sreepati Ramudu and Dr G Vijay, from the forum, will speak on the topic 'Remembering Rohith'. Students also plan to conduct protest outside every hostel mess will be holding a rally at night.
