Flooded underpasses: Bengaluru Mayor Manjunath Reddy pulls up officials
Bengaluru: Following numerous complaints regarding underpasses getting inundated during rains, Mayor Manjunath Reddy inspected Madiwala, Domlur, Marathahalli, and surrounding underpasses on Saturday. On noticing water logging at Madiwala underpass, he pulled up officials for negligence and warned that disciplinary action would be taken if the water was not pumped out within a day.
In Marathahalli, local residents complained that garbage heaps were dumped in the underpass, which had clogged the road, leading to flooding and affecting traffic movement during rains. “It takes hours to cross even a small distance of 1 km. Despite our complaints, the BBMP officials have failed to take action,” they complained.
In response, Reddy instructed the engineers to find an alternative to ensure that there is not water logging during rains and he warned action would be taken if garbage was not removed regularly.
On seeing heaps of garbage lying near Domlur flyover, Reddy levied a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the garbage contractor. During the visit he also found numerous potholes on Richmond Road and ordered the officials to take immediate action. The mayor is expected to take up another inspection shortly.
