CID report unimportant, want CBI probe, says Karnataka DySP's father
Mysuru: Even as the family of the late DySP M.K. Ganapati is getting ready for his eleventh day ceremony on Sunday, his brother Machaiah told Deccan
Chronicle on Saturday that the family has no information about the CID report and that they only want a CBI probe. The CID report has revealed that it was harassment by his higher-ups, and not family problems, that drove Mr Ganapati to suicide.
On the statements of his brother Thammaiah, who is also a DySP, that Mr Ganapati was depressed, Mr Machaiah said, “It is quite natural for anyone to get upset when things go wrong. There have been attempts to contort his statements, but the investigation will reveal the truth.”
He said, “Ganapati came and stayed with us for four days last month and that was when I met and spoke to him last. We don’t know why he came to Madikeri on the day he committed suicide. We want to know the truth and that is the reason we are insisting on a CBI probe.” He said the eleventh day ceremony will be held as per Kodava customs.
Several BJP leaders, including Mr Jagadish Shettar, Mr R. Ashok, Mr Eshwarappa, Mr Ganesh Karnik, Mr K.G. Bopaiah and Mr Appachchuranjan, called on Mr Ganapati’s family at their residence in Rangasamudra in Somwarpet taluk on Saturday.
Govt trying to cover up: Bidari
The Bengaluru Kodava Samaja members held a candle light vigil at Town Hall on Saturday evening, demanding strict action against those responsible for the recent suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapati.
Hundreds of members and some retired police officers took part in the event. Former DG & IGP Shankar Bidari lashed out at the government saying that the government was busy cooking up stories to close the case.
“Even three years after PSI Mallikarjuna Bande’s death, his family members have not received compensation. The government failed to handle Chikkamagaluru kidnap case, and this led to the suicide of DySP Kallapa Handibag. He was suspended without proper preliminary inquiry. Now, it is trying to close Ganapati’s case by citing family issues and depression as the reason,” he said.
During the protest, retired ACP B. B. Ashok Kumar said that it was painful to protest against the government, as he had served many governments during his service by risking his life.
“It’s a tragedy that people have come to streets against the government and its stand. When there is so much public outrage, why can’t the government refer the case for CBI probe,” he questioned.
