Mahbubnagar toddy deaths: HC seeks report

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Friday directed the state government to respond on recent deaths in Mahbubnagar district due to consumption of adulterated toddy.

The division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji on Friday heard the matter and issued notices to the government and officials concerned, and adjourned the case to August 28.

The High Court had taken up a news report as a public interest litigation (PIL), which stated that 42 people who consumed adulterated toddy in Mahbubnagar district had taken ill and three of them, Ashanna, Vishnu Prakash and Renuka, died. A few more people were in a critical condition at a government hospital, the report stated.
