Kaleshwaram goes out of bounds for all

Maoist pamphlets put police on high alert ahead of inaugural.

WARANGAL: With the inaugural ceremony of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) scheduled for June 21, the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district police are beefing up security for the event at which Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be present along with the host, Chief Minister K. Chandra-sekhar Rao.

Combing of forest areas on the Telangana-Chhattis-garh border has been intensified following reports of the outlawed CPI-Maoist’s movements in areas abutting the Godavari river. The police have also increased frisking and vehicle checks in Eturnagaram, Mangapet, Kannaigudem and Tadvai mandals monitoring traffic between the two states.

There are rumours that top Maoist leaders Haribhu-shan and Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar are camping in the Venkatapuram forest region along with 40 members.

The police suspect the hand of Maoists in the attack on a youth working in a nursery maintained by the forest department in Tadvai mandal.

Pamphlets purportedly left by Maoists at a bridge near Arunachalam village under Wajedu mandal, have surfaced, creating a flutter in the region.

On June 11, the police arrested two Maoist sympathisers near Nugur Venkatapur and seized tiffin boxes and cables from them, suspecting that the two were instructed to plant tiffin box bombs.

The entire project site at Medigadda and Kannepalli has been taken over by the police and security personnel. Entry of tourists has been barred. The bomb squad is scanning every inch of the area.
