Thrissur: Acting on a complaint filed by the chief general manager of a jewellery firm, an FIR has been registered by West Police against film director Shrikumar Menon and Mathew Samuel, who runs a youtube channel, for allegedly spreading false news about the firm.
West Police here said that Indian Penal Code sections 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 500 (defamation) along with those for conspiracy have been slapped against Mr Menon and Mr Samuel.
The First Information Report was registered on Saturday, station Sub Inspector said.
The complaint says that due to the false campaigning the jewellery firm had suffered financial losses.
Mr Menon said that he did not know why such a case was filed against him as he did not do any false campaign against any firm. "I came to know about such a case against me on a website. I have made advertisements for this firm for 14 years and have not been doing it for the past three years. It is up to me and my client on whether to renew the contract for making ads or not. I have not posted anything online on FB or spread any false news against any firm on Youtube. I don't know anything more to say on this issue," Mr Menon said.
