Dharmapuri: Stir over water man Rs 50 demand

The water issue of these villagers has been informed to the panchayat level officials.

DHARMAPURI: A group of women protested with empty pots against the water pump operator who according to them demanded bribe to release water from a public tank in Dharmapuri district.

This incident occurred in Nallampalli village, near Pennagaram of Dharmapuri, where the protesting women resorted to a road roko with empty pots on Sunday.
The protest was called to highlight the misdeed of their village pump operator who allegedly demanded a paltry cash of Rs 50 as bribe to release water stored in the public tank meant for them.

In recent times, the Nallampalli village was facing erratic water supply. The villagers claimed that the drinking water to them including the supply from the Hogenakkal drinking water project was stopped a week ago.

The water issue of these villagers has been informed to the panchayat level officials. With no response from them, the villagers approached their pump operator who in turn demanded bribe to meet their request.
