Bridegroom held after fatal quarrel with father in Ariyalur
JAYANKONDAM: It turned out to be a tragic case of ‘bridal bliss’ near and yet too far. A 23-year-old bridegroom was arrested for allegedly murdering his 48-year-old father who allegedly prevented his son from going for his nuptial ceremony at Athichanallur village in Ariyalur dist on Thursday.Police said the arrested Ilamathi got married on Thursday and on the same night was embroiled in a quarrel with his father, Shanmugham, who asked his son to first give the wedding income and expenditure details before proceeding for the newly-weds nuptial ceremony.
However, the bridegroom-son insisted that the marriage accounts could be finalised the next morning, which led to quarrel. At one stage, the father allegedly attacked his son with a wooden long and in retaliation Ilamathi used the same long to whack his father on his head.
The elderly man swooned and collapsed, even as other relatives in the family called the ambulance to take Shanmugham to the hospital. But unfortunately, para-medical staff on examining Shanmugham said the latter had already died. Udayarpalayam police arrested Ilamathi and are probing.
