Hyderabad: A PIL has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the Telangana government to constitute Water Users Committee at mandal, district and state level under the WALTA Act.
Mr G. R. Karunakar , president of Ranga Reddy District Lakes Protection Committee moved the PIL informing the court that when he moved the PIL in 2014 the state government has assured the court that it would constitute the committees within three weeks , but till date it had not set up the committees.
He told the court that several lakes in and around of Hyderabad city and Ranga Reddy have been encroached by the private individuals and the authorities are not taking any steps to protect the lakes though several influential people have illegally occupied the lakes.
