Adivasi women take lead in taking back their lands

It is a surprise to note that the RoFR land was in the possession of the Lambada and RoFR patta was with the land owner tribal.

Adilabad: Some tribal women took the lead in taking back their lands by sowing seeds on the lands allegedly encroached by Lambadas in Gondu Kothaguda under Danthanpalli Grampanchayat of Utnoor mandal in the district on Saturday.

Lambadas allegedly encroached Right of First Refusal (RoFR) ‘patta’ lands which are actually not transferable to other persons and can’t be purchased by any other person as per Section 4 (4) of the Forest Rights Act, 2006.

The tribal women in Gondu Kothaguda village had sowed cotton and red gram seeds on 1.6 acres of RoFR land encroached by a Lambada person in Utnoor mandal. But actually, the land was owned by Uyke Chinnu and the forest land was located in Danthanpalli.

Chinnu said they were taking back their own RoFR land which was encroached by the Lambadas and one should know that RoFR lands are not transferable to anybody or cannot be purchased.

The Lambada person lodged a complaint with Utnoor police against the tribal woman who was the real land owner. It is a surprise to note that the RoFR land was in the possession of the Lambada and RoFR patta was with the land owner tribal.

In some Adivasi gudems, tribal women sowed the seeds on the lands after ploughing. These lands were allegedly encroached by the Lambadas. The tribals claimed that they had land pattas for the lands but Lambadas encroached and cultivated them for some time.

In another incident, some Kolam Adivasis pitched the Thudumdebba flags on the lands allegedly encroached by the Lambada person. There were allegations that one Lambada person encroached nearly 120 acres of land at Mutyampeta in Indravelli mandal.

Kolam Adivasi of Chinnuguda also attempted to pitch tribal flags on 80 acres which were encroached by Lambdas in Luxettipet Grama Panchayat in Utnoor mandal on Saturday.

Some of the tribals al-so pitched their flags on their lands encroached by the Lambadas in few villages in Narnoor mandal also. On the other hand, tribals lodged a complaint against a Congress leader for allegedly assaulting a Kolam youth who was running a shop near Kumarambheem complex in Utnoor by suspecting that the Kolam boy had removed one flex put up near his shop.
