Karnataka: Those stashing public funds will face music

For effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes, the state government has even received awards from the Centre.

Bengaluru: In the three years after the BJP led NDA came to power at the Centre, the state government has received Rs 21,723.08 crore for drinking water schemes, Swachh Bharat and rural employment guarantee scheme, of which the government has utilized Rs 20,518.82 crore.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister H.K. Patil informed the Legislative Council on Friday that the government has effectively utilized central funds and there are no irregularities in utilizing the fund. For effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes, the state government has even received awards from the Centre, he said.

The government has ordered a departmental inquiry into the depositing of funds meant for the drinking water schemes elsewhere. From 2009-10 to 2014-15, money has been stashed in many banks and based on the inquiry report, the government has suspended RDPR deputy secretary Ramakrishna and another officer B.S. Rayageri, the minister said. The government will not spare those involved in stashing public money in banks, he assured the House. While replying to a question by BJP senior member Kota Srinivasa Poojari, Mr Patil said that as per the guidelines of the Centre, the state government is implementing centrally sponsored schemes and also submitting periodical reports to the Centre about the implementation.
