Seers seek debate on Yettinahole project

Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade too had called for a discussion on the project.

Mangaluru: Activists opposing the Yettinahole project have got a shot in the arm with heads of various religious centres in the coastal belt demanding a proper discussion with experts and people on the pros and cons of the scheme to divert water from the tributary of the Netravathi to drier districts of the state.

“Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji was concerned about the project when we met him last week and has volunteered to organise a discussion in Udupi with experts and activists of the Kolar-Chikkaballapur region and the coastal districts. This will give us an opportunity to discuss our concerns with the people of the hinterland,” said Netravati Samrakshana Samyukta Samithi advisor M.G. Hegde. Pointing out that Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade too had called for a discussion on the project, he said many Christian and Muslim leaders of the coast had also joined the anti -Yettinahole movement.
