Displaced farmers move Hyderabad High Court
Hyderabad: Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed Karimnagar district collector and other respondents to spell out their stand on petitions by farmers challenging the failure of the authorities to pay compensation as per the provisions of Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
The judge was dealing with a batch of petitions by Babu Lingampally, a resident of Chintalthana village in Sircilla mandal of Karimnagar district and Swan Youth Association of the village, represented by its president Mahesh.
The petitioners questioned the payment of compensation and issuing of house site patta under the Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy, 2005, without providing resettlement and rehabilitation as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
Ramprasad Teegala, counsel for the petitioners, told the court that in some of the neighbouring villages of Chintalthana, the respondents took possession of the lands and houses and compensation was also awarded to the affected families.
He said that in some other villages, as in the case of Chintalthana, land acquisition proceedings have been left halfway and it has been over 5 years since the passing of award.
He said that as per the Section 24 of the Act, the acquisition proceedings lapse once the authorities fail to pay compensation and take possession of the land within five years from the date of the award being passed for land acquisition.
Adjourning the case, the judge told the respondents to file counter-affidavits.
HC tells MHA to consider revanth plea on security
Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the Home ministry to consider and pass appropriate orders on representation submitted by TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy, seeking Central police protection.
The judge was disposing off the petition by the MLA, who had alleged that the MHA failed to consider his application submitted on March 14, 2016 seeking 4+4 gunmen security cover in view of threat to his life from senior leaders of ruling party in the state. Mr Reddy alleged that the CM himself had on the Floor of the Assembly threatened him with dire consequences.
He submitted that he was the victim of physical attacks in undivided AP and also after formation of Telangana state. The MLA submitted that he was earlier provided security with 3+3 gunmen but it was reduced to 2+2 without any reason being cited.
