Hyderabad: Man electrocutes wife to death for refusing to consume alcohol

Hyderabad: A drunk man allegedly electrocuted his 30-year-old wife after she refused to consume alcohol with him in Kondurgu mandal of Ranga Reddy district in the early hours of May 16. He informed his neighbours and relatives that she had accidentally suffered an electric shock.

Police arrested the accused, Sunnala Yadaiah, an autorickshaw driver, shortly after he confessed to murdering his wife. Mamata, 30, used to work at an industry in Kondurgu. The couple was married for 13 years and had three children.

Late on May 15, Yadaiah came home drunk, and holding a liquor bottle. This led to a quarrel between the couple and Yadaiah left the house. He returned at about 2.30 am on May 16, by which time Mamata was asleep.

Police said he woke her up, insisted she drink with him and forcible poured liquor into her mouth. When she fought back, Yadaiah plugged a wire into a socket and electrocuted her.

Mamata's family members grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with the Shabad police. Her father V. Venkataiah said Mamata had complained to him several times about harassment by Yadaiah.

Based on Mamata’s parents’ complaint, police registered a case of suspicious death and took Yadaiah into custody. After he confessed to the murder, police booked Yadaiah and arrested him.
