Tiruvarur: The Tamil Nadu State Unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) will move to the court seeking a direction to the Union Government to withdraw the hydrocarbon projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said party’s state secretary, R. Mutharasan, here on Thursday.
Addressing reporters on Thursday, he wondered as to why the State maintained silence when the Union Government intensified its efforts to implement the hydrocarbon projects in 274 places in Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkiottai, and Ramanathapuram districts.
Citing the Puducherry Chief Minister Narayanaswami's open declaration that his government will not allow hydrocarbon project there, Mutharasan said, the silence and inaction of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues on the issue, has created doubts that they are supporting the project.
He said the party will intensify its protests soon after May 23, the day of counting of votes for the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and 22 by-election.
Meanwhile, the agitators of Thirukkalaar village panchayat and other parts of Tiruvarur district, entered their second-day agitation on Thursday, protesting against the Centre's move. Members of the local unit of the CPI(M) and a section of farmers of Koothanallur village also are on an indefinite protest for the same reason.
