MLAs get a break as zonal, mandal parishad polls end

But then the ZPTC and MPTC election schedule was announced and they cancelled their holiday plans.

Hyderabad: With the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections over, MLAs are heaving a sigh of relief. Since last September they have been busy with one election after another. Some had planned to go on summer vacation after the Lok Sabha elections. But then the ZPTC and MPTC election schedule was announced and they cancelled their holiday plans.

The Lok Sabha results will be announced on May 23, so they have a week to relax because after the results are announced they will be busy again.

This year, MLAs had spent almost all their time in their constituencies campaigning for the elections. First the Assembly, then Gram Panchayat, Lok Sabha, ZPTC and MPTC elections were held one after the other in the state. For every one of these elections, TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had given them targets to achieve if they wanted to be considered for a Cabinet post. So they had been campaigning vigorously.

There are slots for six more ministers in Mr Rao’s Cabinet and about 15 Assembly secretaries with Cabinet rank are to be appointed.

There is still one election pending — MLC elections under the local body’s quota for in Warangal, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts. The MLAs from these three districts have to continue to stay in their districts and constituencies till the end of this month.
