Chennai: Actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has petitioned the Election Commission to take action on milk and dairy development minister K. T. Rajendra Bhalaji for his ‘chop off the tongue’ comment aimed at MNM founder Kamal Haasan.

The Makkal Needhi Maiam had filed a complaint with police and election officials against the AIADMK leader and State Minister seeking action against him for his ‘hate’ speech.

On Sunday, Haasan had said “free India’s first extremist was a Hindu. And he was Nathuram Godse” referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin. His remarks drew sharp criticism from the BJP and AIADMK even as the Congress, VCK and Dravidar Kazhagam rushed to Haasan’s defence.

MNM functionary and party’s candidate for the Perambur assembly by-poll, U. Priyadarshini, filed the complaint with the office of Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo, as well as with the police, here, seeking action against the Minister. His remarks amounted to inciting violence, she said in her complaint.
