Chennai: The CCTV footage of a freak accident where a senior citizen was crushed to death under the wheel of a private bus in Kundrathur bus terminus on Tuesday was released by the police. The shocking CCTV footage has gone viral on the social media.
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when Lakshmi ( 70) reached Kundrathur terminus to board a bus to Madapakkam. According to reports, she had gone to a hospital in Kundrathur and was waiting to board the Madapakkam bus. The video shows, when she was walking pass a parked private bus, the bus started to move without noticing Lakshmi in front of the bus. As the bus moved, the front portion of the bus hit her to the ground and the front wheel of the bus crushed her.
Hearing her cries, the driver stopped the vehicle and commuters and others in the terminus ran there. Someone called the 108 ambulance service and the woman was taken to a private hospital nearby where doctors declared her 'brought dead'. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to her family members, an official said.
The Chennerkuppam traffic investigation police filed an FIR and secured the driver Raja. A case was registered under section 304A (death caused due to negligent driving) of the IPC. He was taken into custody and investigations are underway.
