Winnability to be only criteria for TRS tickets

KCR had nudged MLAs to increase people's contact.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to take a cue from the Karnataka Assembly results while giving tickets to sitting MLAs in the ensuing state polls.

One third of sitting legislators, including the Speaker and 11 ministers, were defeated in the Karnataka polls, despite the welfare schemes taken up by the party.

A source close to Mr Rao told this newspaper that sitting MLA or not, “only winning horses would be given tickets”.

At a recent TRS plenary meeting, Mr Rao had said all MLAs would be given tickets in 2019. However, a survey has reportedly shown that about 30 per cent of MLAs are seen in poor light by voters.

The TRS is likely to face a tough fight from the Congress in the elections. Under these circumstan-ces, Mr Rao may show the door to some MLAs.
Some MLAs are facing allegations of corruption, keeping away from the constituency people and from party workers as well.

The MLAs who defected to the TRS are also facing problems with their voters as well as TRS workers.

A TRS senior leader said, “unless some MLAs are denied tickets, the party may face problems in the elections despite the number of good schemes the government has introduced.”
