Plus-2 exams results: 91.1 per cent students pass, Virudhunagar district tops list

Chennai: The overall pass percentage in plus-2 exams witnessed a slight fall on Wednesday as 91.1 per cent of students who appeared for the board exams passed this year.

Widening the gap to 6.4 per cent, the girls have secured a pass percentage of 94.1 per cent compared to boys who recorded 87.7 per cent.

The numbers of students who have scored above 1,180 out of 1,200 have fallen drastically this year to 231. Last year, 1,172 students scored marks over 1,180.

Like last year, Virudhunagar district got first place with 97.05 per cent and it was followed by Erode (96.35%) and Tiruppur (96.18 per cent ). Villupuram district was on the bottom of the list with 83.35 per cent.

Explaining the decline, school education minister K.A.Sengottaiyan said, “The question papers were designed to help the students to handle entrance exams with confidence. It will help them in long run.” Around 60 per cent students have secured marks less than 800 this year.

Totally, 9,07,620 students had appeared for the exams that were conducted from March 1 to April 16.

This year 28 per cent of the schools (1907 out of 6,754) got 100% results. Among the government schools, 238 schools achieved full results.

Like last year, Virudhunagar district got first place with 97.05 per cent and it was followed by Erode (96.35%) and Tiruppur (96.18 per cent). Villupuram district was on the bottom of the list with 83.35 per cent. With the abolition of ranks, the board exam results did not give any anxiety to the students and teachers. As most of the students receive their results through SMS, the schools wore deserted look an hour before noon.
