Telangana: Farmer dies on paddy heap

Paddy purchasing centre hoping to get the minimum support price.

Nizamabad: Farmer Akula Pochaiah, 62, of Janagama village in Kamareddy district was found dead on Tuesday at the paddy purchasing centre. He was found dead on a heap of paddy. Sources said Pochaiah brought his paddy for sale to the government paddy purchasing centre in the village 10 days ago. Citing transportation problem the officials refused to purchase paddy from farmers. As a result Pochaiah was staying at the Centre.

It is believed that the farmer either died of sunstroke or due to the tension caused by the delay in procurement. District cooperative central bank vice chairman Premaiah visited the spot. Police shifted body for post-mortem. Pochaiah is survived by his wife and two children. Police registered a case.
