No place for leaders on temple boards: Seer

The seer said Hindu temples in TS and AP have of late become rehabilitation centres for politicians and this practice has to be stopped.

Hyderabad: Swami Paripoornananda Saraswati and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad have opposed appointment of politicians on Hindu temple trust boards and interference by the government.

The seer said Hindu temples in TS and AP have of late become rehabilitation centres for politicians and this practice has to be stopped.

He wanted special status for Hindu temples for which he said he would frame guidelines and take up an agitation in Telugu states.

“Temple trust boards should be headed by philanthropists, propagators of Hindu dharma and committed devotees but not politicians. Political interference in temples should go,” the seer said.

He said officials take their salaries on the donations of pious Hindus to temples but rule the roost in temples along with politicians, which is unjustified.

“Government doesn’t interfere in the affairs of churches and mosques and their properties. Why bias towards Hindu temples and their properties?” the seer asked.

To a question on special status to Hindu temples, he said they would soon come out with guidelines.

TS VHP president Ramaraju and TTD Paryavekshana Samiti general-secretary D. Manohar were also present.
