Amit Shah romances Lakshadweep
Thiruvananthapuram: BJP national president Amit Shah has gone to Lakshadweep to attend organisational meetings during a three-day tour and make inroads for the party on the island.
The BJP had started forming units on the island during the tenure of former BJP state president P. K. Krishnadas as national secretary in charge of Lakshadweep. Earlier, only Kavaratti and Minicoy had BJP units, but now all the remaining 10 inhabited islands out of a total of 36 have BJP’s presence. Mr Shah had arrived in Kochi on Monday night and he proceeded to the island in a helicopter.
“Amit Shah attended booth committee and core committee meetings in Kavaratti convened by the BJP state leadership of Lakshadweep. He is accompanied by a 12- member central team,” said a Kerala BJP leader.
Mr Amit Shah is reviewing the various programmes undertaken by the state units to strengthen the party. He attended a public rally at Kavaratti late on Tuesday night. He has undertaken a country-wide tour lasting 125 days and will attend a slew of organisational meetings. He has limited his public engagements and participated only in three meetings in Jammu, Tripura and Kavaratti. He will tour Kerala from June 2 to 4.
