Panel set up to oversee Telangana CMO construction
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday constituted a high-level committee to oversee the construction of the new Secretariat building complex, the CM’s residence and quarters for All India Service officers.
After scouting for “pucca vastu” site, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao had on March 5 laid the foundation stone for the '35 crore CM’s residence-cum-quarters building adjacent to present CM’s camp office at Begumpet. The complex will have the CM’s official residence, office and a massive meeting hall.
The 11.5-acre site will also house quarters for the CS and other AIS officers.
The present 3-acre CM’s camp office-cum-residence is congested and doesn’t have space to accommodate even 500 people besides no parking facility.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao has been toying with the idea of constructing a new spacious Secretariat at either the Government Chest Hospital, Bison Polo Ground or some other place, but the idea couldn’t take shape due to various reasons. While the Chest Hospital proposal was stiffly resisted by medicos, the defence authorities are keeping the Bison Polo Grounds proposal pending.
The high-level committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary and it includes the special chief secretary, MAUD, principal secretary (Political), GAD, principal revenue secretary, finance secretary, engineer-in-chief R and B (Buildings) as members. Principal secretary, transport, roads and buildings department will be the member-convener. The panel will oversee all the projects.
