KT Rama Rao begins push for top World Bank rank

Industries minister K.T.Rama Rao on Monday held meeting with senior officials of various departments at the Secretariat.

Hyderabad: Telangana is aiming for a place in top-5 World Bank ranks of Indian states on the ease of doing business scale this year. TS was ranked 16th last year, while AP was placed second.

Despite TS introducing the single window online approval system TS-iPASS and attracting over 400 industries last year, it’s poor ranking was attributed to delay in some departments not answering the World Bank’s queries.

Industries minister K.T.Rama Rao on Monday held meeting with senior officials of various departments at the Secretariat and asked them to provide the information required by the World Bank and the Centre in time.

Providing quicker clearances and minimising the human interface by introducing online systems for processing of applications and granting permissions and incentives to business and industry have been projected as factors for ease of doing business.

The Centre has recommended an online single window system through which all the incentives provided in the industrial policy can be made available to the industries.

“We have conducted several rounds of meetings and by June this year most of the parameters suggested by the Centre would be put in place in the state,” Mr Rao said after a review.

The competition for a better ranking was getting intense as the investor perception about ease of doing business is viewed as a major differentiator for being an attractive investment destination.

Among the new initiatives the municipal bodies will issue building permissions within 48 hours to industries while the electricity department will establish systems in all industrial zones and parks to minimise the power interruptions.
