Vijayawad: Two die, 8 hurt in bus mishap
Vijayawad: Two persons died and eight others suffered injuries after the bus in which they were travelling ran into the farmlands, adjacent the road at Thotacharla of Penuganchiprolu mandal in Krishna district on Tuesday.
The bus, belonging to TSTRTC, was on its way to Vijayawada from Nirmal. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the speeding bus ran into the nearby farmlands.
The driver and conductor died in the accident and the police shifted the injured to Nandigama government hospital for treatment.
The passengers complained that the driver drove the vehicle at very high speed despite their repeated requests to go slow.
The bus belongs to Nirmal depot in neighbouring Telangana and 50 people were travelling in it during the time of mishap.
On reaching Thotacharla on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad (NH-65) route at 5 am, the driver tried to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle.
It ran into the farmlands near the road. On seeing this, the locals rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers.
The Nandigama and Kanchikacharla police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Nandigama hospital where the doctors said their condition was stable. The police registered a case.
