Tasmac shops sell liquor for record Rs 215 crore
Chennai: Government-run Tasmac shops in TN sold a record Rs 215 crore worth of liquor on Monday, before the Election Commission's order to close liquor shops for three days took effect on Tuesday for the April 18 elections.
The normal daily sale in the Tasmac shops is around Rs 75 crore to Rs 80 crore. Ahead of the three-day closure, tipplers stood in long queues on Monday to stock up.
According to sources “the liquor sales hit a new heights as Tasmac outlets sold stock worth over Rs 635 crore in four days. At many places, queues were witnessed before the shops opened”.
While liquor sales touched Rs 215 crore on Monday, it was Rs 117 crore on Friday,
Rs 141 crore on Saturday adn Rs 162 crore on Sunday. Liquor worth Rs 46 crore was sold in Chennai and Rs 45 crore in Madurai.
