Khammam: Nursery workers not paid

Lenin said that there were no basic facilities at various work spots and the officials should provide for the sake of the labourers.

Khammam: The Telangala Vyaasaya Karmika Sangham alleged that the government is not paying the pending wages to the workers who worked in thousands of government nurseries in the state.

The labourers were engaged in these nurseries under MNREGS and the government had not released the wages. With this, thousands of workers in rural areas are suffering lot, said B. Lenin, district president of the Sangham.

He said, the officials were not distributing ORS packets to the labourers in many work places and demanded that it should be done immediately. There is every possibility that the labour would face sunstroke as the mercury is rising, he added.

Mr Lenin said that there were no basic facilities at various work spots and the officials should provide for the sake of the labourers. He said the prices of essential commodities were sky-rocketing and the labourers were worst hit with it. He demanded that the government should increase MNREGS wage to Rs 300 from Rs 177 per day. He recalled that the minimum wage in Kerala is Rs 500 and the government should provide work to the workers as per the norm of 100 days in a year.
