Congress will sweep Zilla Parishad elections: Ponnam Prabhakar

Candidates for Parishad polls to be selected by April 20.

Karimnagar: Congress is going to sweep Parishad elections and will give a befitting lesson to ruling TRS, stated Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday.

Ponnam was the chief guest at a meeting that was held with the party activists and leaders of Husnabad constituency here, in Karimnagar district.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar said that the selection of candidates, who are interested to contest in Parishad elections, will be held transparently, considering the opinion of senior and local leaders, along with allotting a major share of seats to local people and to young blood.

“Those who are determined to render service to the public and going to stand in front row in resolving the people’s issues will be considered. The contestants for Parishad elections will be selected by April 20,” he added.

Mr Prabhakar informed the party cadre that keeping in view the recent happenings within the party and to keep check on defections, which the party had experienced in recent times, the party is going to ask all its contestants to sign on affidavits, promising that they will not shift their loyalties to other parties, after winning on Congress ticket.

Building the confidence among the party cadre, Mr Prabhakar said that there is an anti-wave that is prevailing against the ruling TRS government in the state and appealed them to utilise the opportunity and convert that into vote bank.

He also said that the Congress is going to sweep the Parishad elections in three integrated districts of Karimnagar, Warangal and Siddipet, by winning all the ZPTC and MPTC seats. Former MLA Akula Rajendar, Siddipet District Congress president and former MLA Narsareddy, TPCC secretary Bomma Sriram Chakravarthi, Warangal unit Kisan Cell president Narasimha Reddy, were among those who attended the meeting.
