Congress to move poll panel over symbol size

On the EVMs saying the ‘hand’ symbol appears smaller than the ‘lotus’ symbol of BJP.

Thrissur: Chief election agent of the Congress in Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday demanded correction on the list showing the names and the symbols of the political party on the EVMs saying the ‘hand’ symbol appears smaller than the ‘lotus’ symbol of BJP.

Senior Congress leader O. Abdurahman Kutty filed a complaint with the district election officer and district collector T. V. Anupama on the issue after which the collector reached the Government Engineering College to verify the complaint. She inspected the symbols to be pasted on the EVMs and said there was nothing wrong with the dimensions of the symbols in the digital format, party sources said.

But they said that regardless of the dimensions, the ‘hand’ symbol was appearing smaller than the ‘Lotus’ on the list on the EVMs and the party would soon file a complaint with Chief Electoral officer Teeka Ram Meena. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala would take up the matter with Mr Meena.

However, the officials associated with election work say the possibility of changing the list of candidates and their symbols to be fixed and sealed with the EVMs was remote.
