Campaign draws to close on even keel in Thanjavur Lok Sabha

Thanjavur: Political parties wrapped up their respective campaigns for Lok Sabha polls here on Tuesday.

Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), which is contesting the only Thanjavur Lok Sabha seat as part of AIADMK-alliance ended its campaign at railway station before the statues of MGR and J. Jayalalithaa, former Chief Ministers G.K. Vasan, president of TMC (Moopanar) reiterated that electing like-minded party to head the government at centre will pave way for development of state.

Vasan sought people's support for N.R. Nadarajan in 'Autorickshaw' symbol for Thanjavur Lok Sabha and R. Gandhi, AIADMK candidate for Thanjavur assembly by-poll. R. Vaithilingam, MP and deputy coordinator of AIADMK, also campaigned for the two candidates.

The DMK wound up the campaign near Anna statue with a big rally.

S.S. Palanimanickam, former union minister and DMK candidate for Thanjavur Lok Sabha said that proposed hydrocarbon projects in the delta will not be permitted. Exemption from NEET will be got for Tamil Nadu and modernisation of GA canal (second phase) will be taken up. T. K. G. Neelamegam, DMK candidate for Thanjavur assembly by-election also sought the support of the people.

The AMMK, Makkal Needi Maiyam, Naam Thamizhar Katchi also wound up their campaigns.

There are 12 candidates in the fray for Thanjavur Lok Sabha and 13 candidates for Thanjavur assembly constituency.

Officials have distributed voters slips door-to-door which can be used to go to booths.
