Telangana: Consumer rights in syllabus

Discussions are going on including these topics on common subjects so that students from all groups are covered.

Hyderabad: The Intermediate Board is considering inclusion of lessons on electoral and consumer rights in the pre-degree course.According Board of Intermediate Education secretary Dr A. Ashok, teenage students should have awareness about right to vote and various laws that protect the rights of consumers.

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal was sharing inputs for lessons on electoral rights, he said. “We thought of including these topics as chapters in civics or environmental education. Discussions are going on including these topics on common subjects so that students from all groups are covered,” he said.

The department will constitute a committee to deliberate on what topics and how many chapters — not too small and not too long — should be included so that awareness is created among students, an official said.
