Swapnalok management was warned against lethargy: Fire officer

Hyderabad: Officials from fire and four other departments had conducted an inspection of Swapnalok complex and directed them to immediately install fire safety measures to prevent future mishaps. However, the complex management failed to follow the directions.

Secunderabad fire station officer Mohan Rao said that they had visited the complex along with revenue and police officials a few months ago. They found many violations and directed the management to take suitable fire safety precautions in view of summer.

"There was a major fire mishap in the building in 2011. Two years later, we filed a petition before the court seeking action against the builder for failing to follow safety measures. The builder got an order in favour of him and he assigned all rights to flat owners. Since then, we have served a number of notices to them. However, the flat owners failed to comply with our orders," Rao said.

The fire department officials found that the complex was generally congested with people because of which they asked shop and flat owners to install emergency exits. There are no proper fire extinguishers inside the congested place.
