Whereabouts of 7 Indians unknown

Two Indians are receiving treatment, the Indian mission said.

Hyderabad, Christchurch: Two persons from Hyderabad were killed in the horrific massacre at Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday.

A report from Christchurch quoted the Indian High Commission in New Zealand as saying that it was working with local authorities regarding the whereabouts of seven Indians and two Indian-origin persons after the terror attacks. Two Indians are receiving treatment, the Indian mission said.

At least 49 worshippers were killed on Friday. The High Commission has said that any Indian national affected by the attacks on two Christchurch mosques can contact the mission for assistance and tweeted two contact numbers: 021803899 and 021850033.

Imran Khan, 39, a native of Karimnagar, went to New Zealand 17 years ago. Mr Mahboob Khan, the paternal uncle of Imran Khan, said his brother Moin Khan, who is settled in the US, had reached New Zealand to collect the mortal remains.

Farhaj Ahsan was listed missing on Friday in the chaotic aftermath of the shooting. Ahsan had settled in New Zealand with his wife, who also had no information about his whereabouts after the incident.

His name was listed among the victims released by New Zealand on Saturday, plunging his family into despair.

Ahsan’s father Mohammed Sayeed, who is in touch with the Indian authorities and the New Zealand Embassy in Delhi for visa processing, said he and his brother Mohammed Samiuddin will leave on Sunday to receive the body of his son. He said he would try to bring Ahsan’s body back to Hyderabad for the final rites.
