Visakhapatnam: Classes at tribal varsity set to start from next year

The mentor university has proposed six courses including graduation, post-graduation and five-year integrated courses.

Visakhapatnam: Central Tribal University, AP, will be functional at Relli village in Kothavalasa mandal of Vizianaga-ram district by 2020-21. However, classes will commence at a transit campus as soon as the next academic year.

This was announced by Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao of the Andhra University that mentors the operation of the tribal varsity. After observing the records of 526-acre land allotted by the state government, Prof. Nageswara Rao said that the detailed project report (DPR) for 10 years will be ready within a week.

He said, “Cabinet has approved Rs 500 crore for the establishment of Tribal University. Based on the DPR, the funds will be released in a phased manner for its expenditure. The academic block and administrative block will be constructed by 2020-21 in the first phase.”

“Till then, classes will be conducted at the transit campus. We have identified two colleges in Vizianagaram district and sent the details to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which will approve the same by the end of this month,” he adds.

The mentor university has proposed six courses including graduation, post-graduation and five-year integrated courses. It plans to allocate 30 seats in each course. The MHRD will be approving the same in a couple of days.
