Christchurch attack: Injured student from Kerala dies

Her death was confirmed by the relatives of Nazer at Thiruvallur near Madavana in Kodungallur on Saturday evening.

Thrissur: A female M.Tech student from Kodungallur studying at an agriculture university in New Zealand was killed in the terror shooting at Al Noor masjid at Deans Avenue in Christchurch on Friday.

The victim is Ancy Ali Bava, 23, who was residing near the masjid with her husband Ponnath Abdul Nazer, who works at a supermarket in Christchurch. Her death was confirmed by the relatives of Nazer at Thiruvallur near Madavana in Kodungallur on Saturday evening.

Earlier, Nazer had informed his relatives in Kodugallur that his wife had suffered leg injuries in the terror attack and that she was undergoing treatment. The couple had migrated to New Zealand one-and-a-half years ago after Ancy first reached that country as a student. They married two years ago.

Both had gone to the mosque for Jumma prayers on Friday and Nazer was offering namaz at a masjid at Linwood Avenue. Ancy was praying at the masjid meant for women and children at Deans Avenue, say the relatives.
As many as 41 people were gunned down at Deans Avenue and eight killed at Linwood. The relatives here are yet to get any intimation about bringing the body to Kodungallur.
